This is a CPCAB validated course for people over 18 who want to learn counselling skills to help others either in a voluntary or paid role, such as teachers, mentors, nurses, and those who want to find out more about this field or begin to train as a counsellor. The course focusses on developing the practical use of skills, and personal development.
The CSK-L2 qualification is one step in a series of CPCAB qualifications.
It does not qualify you to practice as a professional counsellor.
Once you have completed this qualification you may wish to begin training to become a counsellor, in which case the next step on from CSK-L2 is CPCAB’s Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies (CST-L3).
This qualification comprises of 7 units where you will work towards developing and demonstrating the following skills and knowledge:
- Unit 1 - Using counselling skills ethically and safely.
- Unit 2 - Establishing and sustaining the boundaries of the helping role.
- Unit 3 - Working empathically as a helper.
- Unit 4 - Focusing on the helpee's needs and concerns.
- Unit 5 - Using self-awareness in helping work.
- Unit 6 - Using a range of counselling skills to facilitate the helping interaction.
- Unit 7 - Using feedback and reflection to enhance counselling skills.
This course is delivered mostly in-person by two tutors every session.
A small number of sessions are held online to accommodate for the increasingly online presence that remote counselling demands.
Age 18+. No specific previous training or experience required, although you will be asked to attend a brief, informal interview.
